Founded in 1998 in Santa Monica, California, Archipelago began in a small studio overlooking the Catalina Islands, from which the brand derives its name—"archipelago" means archipelago. Production is carried out in the United States, with an emphasis on natural formulations free of parabens, artificial colors, animal cruelty, and genetically modified ingredients—typically vegan and gluten-free.
