Born in Egypt to Greek parents, Jean Dessès found work at a Parisian fashion house and opened his first salon in 1937. Adored by the crowned heads of Europe and the most popular film stars of his day, he was a leading designer from the 1940s through the 1960s, when he retired from fashion and returned to Greece.
