Menard, the Japanese cosmetic house, was established in 1959 by Daisuke Nonogawa guided by the philosophy of “Seeking True Beauty". Mr. Nonogawa named the company after the mythological goddess Maenad, who served the Greek god Dionysus. Menard, which is also a French name, brings images of France in mind, which served as a great inspiration for all the products – thus the slogan "born in France and raised in Japan” emerged. The first Menard salon was opened in 1964 in Japan, and the Menard Museum that showcases the collection of Nonogawa opened in 1987.
