THE LEGEND Isolated within her melancholic manor overlooking desolate marshland, a widow mourns her departed husband. She gazes at the fog cloaking the landscape, occasionally meandering through the musty corridors, each step echoing with the fading resonance of treasured memories, serving as poignant reminders of the life she lost. One morning, on a trip to a musty antique store, she happens upon a peculiar crystal. Drawn to it, she takes it to the register along with other oddities. Noticing the crystal, the shopkeeper's eyes deepen in wisdom, he tells her of its rumoured ability of resurrection, but that attempting such necromancy seems perilous. The widow’s desperation wins over caution and she buys the crystal, disregarding the shopkeeper's words. Consumed by obsession, she spends days poring over old books until she finally uncovers a ritual that promises to revive her beloved. She gathers rare botanicals and essences and is soon ready to begin. As she utters mystical incantations, the crystal radiates with a purple luminance, whilst the air fills with the aroma of Jasmine and Sweet Oriental. Hope flickers within her, but suddenly, a freezing gust sweeps through the room snuffing out the candles, plunging the room into darkness. A rasping breath echoes behind her. She turns slowly to see her husband standing a few feet away, yet something is wrong; his cadaverous skin and vacant eyes send waves of horror through her elated heart. Every fibre of her being urges her to flee, but an unseen force roots her in place. Her husband's soulless form glides toward her, his toes dragging along the floor as if something else is controlling his body. The widow’s chest tightens with the realisation that this is her end. Yet, the bittersweet hope of being reunited with her husband in the afterlife finds its way into her thoughts. So, with a final breath, she closes her eyes and embraces her fate with resolute acceptance.
