Pierre Wargnye was born in Lille, France, and spent his childhood in Grasse, the birthplace of modern perfumery and a UNESCO World Heritage site. He was greatly inspired by the scents of freshly picked jasmine flowers and distilled patchouli, which would later influence his work. Wargnye earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Lycee de Nice before starting his career as a laboratory technician. In 1980, Wargnye joined the fragrance and flavors supplier IFF, where he apprenticed with Bernard Chant in New York.
