In a dimly lit bookshop on a rainy evening, a renowned collector presides over his desk. Revered in the circles of literature, his ability to unearth elusive books is well-known, albeit at a steep price. That evening, an unknown, wealthy man enters with an offer to tempt even the most steadfast soul. He seeks the “Infernal Codex”, rumoured to hold the secrets of Lucifer himself. The collector's better judgement warns him, but the promise of wealth persuades him to embark on a treacherous hunt into the occult. After months of searching, he uncovers its location. As he retrieves the leather-bound book, an unsettling feeling descends upon him, yet fulfils his end of the deal, delivering it to the wealthy man. Curiosity drives the collector to stalk him to an abandoned castle, where he unwittingly witnesses a satanic ritual. The wealthy man's hand hovers over the open pages, poised to spill his blood and release the secrets of the devil. In a moment of madness, the collector seizes the opportunity and with a swift, fatal strike, ends the wealthy man’s life. As blood pools, a sudden transformation occurs. The man's body contorts, the flesh melting away revealing the true form of Lucifer. Free from his guise, Lucifer gazes upon the collector with burning eyes. The collector is overcome by the hypnotic scent of black incense and Ambroxan as Lucifer's voice resonates, commending him as to be released, the Devil must be sacrificed by an unwitting mortal during the ritual. Dread hits the collector as he realises he was a mere pawn. Lucifer grins and with a wave of his hand, a pact is formed and once a master of rare books, the collector is cursed into servitude. His fitting punishment, an eternity of collecting the souls of the damned, or be damned himself.
